
Leaders from Metro Parks and the community ceremonially break ground on the new center
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for the Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park Nature Center, a 14,000 square foot educational facility designed to support Metro Parks’ educational goals with classrooms, a large multi-purpose room, and interactive exhibits. The event featured several speakers, including Metro Parks director John O’Meara, Metro Parks board member and former Columbus mayor Greg Lashutka, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Ohio State Representative Cheryl Grossman, and Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks. While this groundbreaking featured the typical golden shovels, it also featured exhibitions of some of the park’s aquatic wildlife and information about the park’s newest and largest residents – its bison!
