This year’s Autodesk University conference was again a huge success. Every year I find myself busier and busier (in a good way) at the event as there are so many great opportunities to learn and interact with the ever growing network of peers that I have developed over the last 6 years of attending. This year was no exception and provided a series of unique perspectives right from the opening keynote presentation.
Autodesk’s Chief Technology Officer, Jeff Kowalski, started the general session by explaining that the technology trends disrupting “business as usual” — including infinite computing and digital fabrication — offer opportunities to those who embrace them, and suggested that we all “embrace the sea of complexity and use these waves of disruption to take you where you want to go”.
The “five waves of complexity” presented:
- Shift from people are making from owning their own products to access and experience
- Business Unusual
- Digital Fabrication
- Ambient Intelligence
- Infinite computing
Including an interesting and diverse range presenter, Autodesk CEO, Carl Bass, spoke on the changing paradigms of how we all utilize technology. The idea of having access to technology is far more important than owning it, and having that access as a cloud rather than a crowd can enable for more creative outcomes. There was a significant focus on innovation this year and proved to be extremely thought provoking and energizing. Many different publications and websites have provided great coverage of the conference and instead of reinventing the wheel, thought I would share their feedback:
